When the Midwest Area Game Enthusiasts was first started, we didn’t have things like email and social media. It was brought together by a group of people along the I-29 corridor as a way to connect gamers, and to help spread and promote history and the hobby of gaming.
MAGE was a great tool, that served the area for over 20 years. With that said, the need for MAGE has pretty much been replaced by email lists and social media, where the word of activities can spread at a moment’s notice.
MAGE by some accounts had lost its way, and wasn’t doing what it had originally set out to do anymore. There were plenty of discussions on what to do, but it usually ended up with reinventing ourselves or to throw in the towel and call it a good run. It was a hard decision, but not one that the board of directors took lightly.
MAGE as an origination has ceased to operate as of June 1st 2015. MAGE’s mission isn’t really over, it’s just evolved into other things. There are still gaming groups in the area, I urge you all to seek them out and support them.
