I entered the gaming world on the coattails of my older brother, Dave.
The “Brawl Factory” dates back to the 60’s: a trip to the theater to see “The Alamo” or “Great Escape” was followed by a descent to the basement ping pong table to set up/recreate the action with toy soldiers, blocks, and the infamous “binder-gun”. Board games were also invented: scraps of cardboard were never thrown out in our house!
“Real” wargames entered into the picture with the first Avalon Hill boardgames, Chainmail / Tractics / and other early miniatures rules, and ventures into role-playing with the original D&D. Exposure to many of the “old farts” of MAGE came with visits/gaming with Dave after he moved to Luvern —I still have some of the old “GPGP” newsletters that Jim Lurvey put out.
After a few years “bouncing around”, I returned to the midwest in ’00, oiled up the old Factory, and have been designing games to plague the locals, entice innocents to the world of gaming, and (hopefully) bring a measure of fun to the Cons. I enjoy any type of game —card, board, role-playing, miniatures, drinking…— as long as it’s FUN, and no: I will probably never grow up.
